Accessibility

All Oulu Regional Transport’s lines are driven on low-floor buses and most of them include an accessible ramp. If you need the ramp, the driver will help you with it. All buses can tilt to ease boarding and getting off.

If you have mobility impairments, we encourage you to use the middle doors of the bus. If you are traveling with a guide dog, please use the front door of the bus.

The cabin screens display either the line’s destination or the next stop based on real-time location data. The displayed content depends on the line’s operation agreement.

Accessibility in the new buses

The new vehicles have considered accessibility more extensively. Yellow safety color is used in the fronts and platforms of entry and exit doors. Additionally, the rails by the exit doors and the handles for standing passengers are yellow.

Pressing the Stop button creates a sound and the light on the button’s frame turns from red to green. The lightest possible fabric is used in seat lining to ease noticing passengers traveling in dark clothing.

The next stop will be announced in the future, if such announcements are part of the line’s operation agreement. Announcements will be included on lines 1, 2, 2N, 3, 5, 5N, 7, 10, 11, 14, 18, 19 and 58.

Wheelchair users

If you use an electric wheelchair, please note that the accessibility ramp only withstands a maximum weight of 300 kg. The total weight of the wheelchair user and the wheelchair or electric wheelchair must not exceed 300 kg. The operator’s liability insurance covers damages up to the total weight of 300 kg. If the ramp breaks due to exceeding the weight limit, the liability of damages falls onto the customer.

Traveling with a guide dog

There is space reserved for passengers with guide dogs behind the driver’s seat. Some buses have a separate Stop button for passengers with guide dogs that extend the exit time. Pressing the button keeps the doors open for a longer time.

Improving the accessibility

When a transportation contract ends, we include new improvement criteria in all new contracts.
