Children

Four children (0-6 years old) may travel free-of-charge with an escort. This includes children in baby carriages. A children’s single ticket must be purchased for all children that exceed this amount. The escort must have a valid ticket unless they themselves belong to a group entitled to free travel. For example, a wheelchair user and their assistant always travel for free, and up to four children under the age of 7 may travel for free with them.

School children may receive travel tickets for school journeys from their municipality. Further information from the school’s secretary.

A child under the age of seven traveling alone can travel for free with an OSL card. A personal OSL card for a child under seven can be obtained from Oulu10. A base fee for the travel card will be charged, and the card will be loaded with the value of a single ticket for the child. Bring the child’s Kela card (or passport) with you.

Children between 7–16 years old travel with discounted prices on Oulu region transport buses (in finnish Oulun seudun liikenne, OSL). Prepare to prove your age.

Youth

Young people between 17–24 years old may purchase a 30-day or 90-day season ticket with discounted prices. Both tickets can be loaded into your personal travel card, and the 30-day season ticket can be loaded into the OSL app.

Students

You may receive a school transport subsidy if you are a full-time student in an upper secondary institution and your school journey is long. See more information on Kela’s website.

If you are a student between 17-24 years old, you may purchase a season ticket with the youth discount from the Waltti online store by authenticating with a mobile certificate or with your bank information, or from Oulu10 service desk by proving your age with an official ID.

If you are a 25 years old or older full-time student, you may purchase a season ticket with the youth discount by updating your student status in “Opintopolku”. When purchasing from Oulu10, you must present an official ID and a certificate of student status to receive the discount.

Exchange students may purchase a seasonal ticket with the youth discount from Oulu10 service desk. If you are an exchange student between 17-24 years old, you will receive the discounted ticket if you present an official ID. If you are 25 years old or older, you must present an official ID and at least a 30-day certificate of student status in a school within the OSL service region.

65 years old

If you have turned 65 years old, you will receive a 25 % discount for single tickets purchased with a OSL card on Mondays to Fridays and on mid-week holidays between the times 9.30–14.30. The discounted price is charged from your OSL card automatically when purchasing single tickets during the discount periods.

People with disabilities

Wheelchair user

If you use a wheelchair, you and your escort may travel free-of-charge on Oulu Region Transport’s buses. You do not need an EU Disability Card to hop on free of charge.

Other disabilities

If you have an EU Disability Card (www.vammaiskortti.fi/en) with the A symbol, you must purchase a ticket for yourself, but your assistant may travel free-of-charge. Present the card to the driver as you board. The assistant must assist you for the entire duration of travel – from boarding to exiting the bus.

Walker user

If you use a walker to assist your movement, you may travel free-of-charge on Oulu region transport buses from Mondays to Fridays, and mid-week holidays between the times 9.30–14.30.

You cannot get on with a kick scooter type of walker. The long footrests of the kick scooter walker block the aisle. There must be enough space for other passengers on the bus. For safety reasons, the center aisle must be kept clear.

Baby carriage and strollers

You may travel free of charge with baby carriage or strollers. If you use baby carriage or strollers for transporting goods or travel with empty carriage or strollers, you need to buy a ticket.

An exception is traffic between Oulu and Hailuoto. On Hailuoto routes, the baby carriages are placed in the bus’s cargo compartment. Persons traveling with baby carriages must pay for their travel.

Please see more information about traveling with baby carriage.

Other

War veterans may travel free-of-charge on Oulu region transport buses by presenting their Veteran Card. See the instructions on applying for Veteran Cards on Oulu’s website.

Police officers on duty in work uniform and in civilian clothes (must present their badge), and traffic wardens in work uniform may travel free-of-charge as well.
