School transport subsidy for upper secondary level students
The young person can apply for school transport subsidy when they have accepted an offer of admission to a school and know the length of their one-way trip school. Continuing upper secondary students must apply for school transport subsidy separately for each academic year.
Who is entitled to school transport subsidy
Secondary-level students whose one-way trip to school is at least seven kilometres can get a school transport subsidy from Kela. If you take public transport to and from school you can get your tickets free of charge from our online store as soon as you have submitted your application in the OmaKela e-service. You do not have to wait for the approving message from Kela, instead, you can check right way from the OmaKela e-service your right to purchase a school subsidy ticket.
OSL tickets are on sale in Waltti online store (waltti.fi).
Mobile ID and Banking Codes
Before the young person can use OmaKela to make an application, they will need their own online banking codes or mobile ID to log in. It is worthwhile to get the online banking codes or a mobile ID, so that the young person also henceforth can apply for benefits for students conveniently in the OmaKela e-service and download tickets from Waltti online store.
OSL Card is needed
A young person needs an OSL card for the school transport subsidy ticket. The same travel card cannot have other bus tickets or value for purchasing a single ticket. The OSL card can be obtained from the Waltti online store. The OSL card must be ordered first before a school travel support ticket can be loaded onto the card. We will send the OSL card by post within two weeks of the order.
