A total of 97 bus shelters in the Oulu will be replaced between June and August. The bus stops will remain operational for passengers throughout the dismantling and installation work. The first tasks will be carried out this week, starting with the removal of bus stop displays from the shelters being replaced.
The actual dismantling and installation of the shelter structures will begin in the second week of June. The work has been scheduled so that each bus stop will be without a shelter for approximately two weeks.
During the summer, the newly installed shelters may temporarily lack certain features, such as timetable posters or route signs. Up-to-date schedules can be found in the OSL app and on our route planner: reittiopas.osl.fi.
Change in Advertising Operator
The current advertising operator in Oulu owns the shelters being replaced, and the renovation is taking place due to a operator change. Outshine Oy has been selected as the new advertising operator, and it will be responsible for installing the new shelters.
With the new contract, the busiest bus stops in Oulu will receive uniform shelters, making maintenance easier and creating a more cohesive urban appearance. Unlike the previous agreement, the new shelters will become the property of the city, although the operator will continue to be responsible for their maintenance. Additionally, the city will benefit financially from advertising revenue.
Many of the dismantled shelters will continue to serve public transport users in other cities.
First shelters will be replaced at Torikatu
The first shelters to be removed are at the following stops: Kaupungintalo P, Kaupungintalo E, Pekuri P, and Hellaakoski. Their dismantling will take place during week 24. The furnishings of the shelters, such as timetable cabinets, trash bins, and glass panels, will be removed one week earlier.
At some stops preparations for the renovation will begin this week. The removal of bus stop displays and related technology from the affected shelters will be carried out during weeks 22 and 23.
All new shelters are expected to be fully operational by the end of August, with the bus stop displays reinstalled in early September.
